We had just traveled to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to visit our family and friends when it all happened. We only had a week to see a little bit of our hometown, to be with 3 friends and family. And suddenly 3 weeks became 3 months.

(PT)É inegável o fato desse período de quarentena ter desafiado todos nós. Tínhamos acabado de viajar para o Rio de Janeiro, no Brazil, para visitar nossa família e amigos quando tudo aconteceu. Tivemos apenas uma semana para ver um pouquinho da nossa cidade natal, estar com 3 amigos e com a família. E 3 semanas viraram 3 meses.

Our Life Changing – Quarantine Portraits

(EN)In Porto, where we live, we had just moved, we were in that “honeymoon” phase with our new home, putting everything in place. In addition, after Brazil we would go to Belgium, Germany, Holland and Luxembourg. It would be a dream trip for us, that were about to photograph many beautiful stories in these incredible places.

(PT)No Porto, onde moramos, tínhamos acabado de nos mudar de apartamento, estávamos naquela fase de lua de mel com o nosso novo lar, colocando tudo no lugar. Além disso, depois do Brasil iríamos para a Bélgica, Alemanha, Holanda e Luxemburgo. Seria uma viagem de sonhos para nós, que estávamos prestes a fotografar muitas histórias lindas nesses lugares incríveis.

Seeing light at the end of the tunnel – Quarantine Portraits

(EN)Like a big wave on a day of sea breakers, COVID has been dismantling our plans, and still hasn’t given us the opportunity to feel bad, since many people were worse off. For us, the damage was having all our jobs canceled or postponed, but on the other hand we started to see the opportunities.

When could we imagine having 3 months with our family, since we live in another country? Even here, they and we were always busy with work, which stopped in this moment. We’ve been able to live together, be together playing cards, exercising in the morning, eating together at the table at every meal and watching movies all spread out on the couch.

(PT)Como uma grande onda em um dia de ressaca do mar, o COVID foi desmantelando nossos planos, e ainda não deu a oportunidade de nos sentirmos mal, já que muitas pessoas estavam em situação pior. Para nós, o dano foi ter todos os nossos trabalhos cancelados ou adiados, mas por outro lado começamos a enxergar as oportunidades.

Quando é que nós poderíamos imaginar ter 3 meses com a nossa família, já que moramos em outro país? Mesmo aqui, eles e nós estávamos sempre ocupados com o trabalho, o que cessou nesse momento. Pudemos conviver, estarmos juntos jogando baralho, nos exercitando pela manhã, comendo juntos à mesa em todas as refeições e assistindo filmes todos espalhados no sofá.

An opportunity for good change – Quarantine Portraits

(EN)It is very funny how our mind often works opposite to the heart. We need to do this conscious exercise of seeing opportunities where our minds point out what’s wrong. Do not listen to that voice that says everything is falling apart and literally affirm to yourself every day that it will pass and you will handle everything.

There were so many reinventions that I (Nathalia) had to cut my hair in a pixie cut. I had to make room for a new Me to manifest itself in the middle of it all. A strong, obstinate, enterprising Nathalia, and also loving and dear, enjoying family moments. It was a moment to find all the balance within me that I could find. And so it was.

(PT)É muito engraçado como nossa mente muitas vezes trabalha de forma oposta ao coração. Precisamos fazer esse exercício consciente de enxergar oportunidades onde nossa mente aponta o que tem de errado. Não ouvir à essa voz que diz que tudo está desmoronando e literalmente afirmar todos os dias à si mesmo que isso vai passar e que você vai dar conta de tudo.

Foram tantas reinvenções que eu (Nathalia) precisei cortar o cabelo pixie. Precisei abrir espaço para uma nova eu se manifestar no meio disso tudo. Uma Nathalia forte, obstinada, empreendedora, carinhosa e querida, aproveitando os momentos em família. Foi um momento de encontrar dentro de mim todo o equilíbrio que eu pudesse encontrar. E assim foi.

Passing in Quarantine Together – Quarantine Portraits

(EN)I am fortunate to have a talented photographer as my husband(Pedro), and his internal transformations, we were able to channel all these emotions into art, from the bottom of our soul.

These photographs represent this change, this internal force that had to be rescued and activated, but together with a great and profound gratitude for being living the moment more, enjoying every second with family, working less and feeling more. This mix of emotions and experiences brought us an expanded awareness of what it is to be human, as there is nothing more human than feeling and creating.

(PT)Tenho a sorte de ter um fotógrafo talentoso como meu marido, junto com ele (Pedro) e suas transformações internas, nós pudemos canalizar todas essas emoções em arte, do fundo da nossa alma.

Essas fotografias representam essa mudança, essa força interna que teve que ser resgatada e ativada, mas junto de uma grande e profunda gratidão por estar vivendo mais o agora, aproveitando cada segundo em família, trabalhando menos e sentindo mais. Esse misto de emoções e vivências nos trouxe uma consciência expandida do que é ser humano, pois não existe coisa mais humana do que sentir e criar.

(EN)We hope you can feel it.

Everything we photograph can have a conscious process at the moment, or not. But always, always sends a message. These photographs brought messages from our unconscious. Light now represents our creative potential, for what we can achieve by creating, using art to revolutionize and feel alive.

(PT)Esperamos que possa sentir.

Tudo o que fotografamos pode ter um processo consciente no momento, ou não. Mas sempre, sempre passa uma mensagem. Estas fotografias trouxeram mensagens do nosso inconsciente. A luz representa agora nosso potencial criativo, pelo que podemos alcançar criando, usando da arte pra revolucionar e nos sentirmos vivos.

(EN) In this Quarantine Portraits we feel this call that we felt of being taken by the bright but that brings us so much fear for putting us in a position of vulnerability. Exposed, literally and figuratively naked, subject to judgment, not knowing how our message will reach the eyes of those on the other side.

In another moment, it also portrays our connection as sacred union, Shiva and Shakti, the masculine and the feminine in perfect harmony and communion. Our path on finding our balance and living each day more present, in a relationship that becomes more real and profound each day. They reveal the subtlety of our undressing, supporting us in the other, feeling the safe base to follow.

The collective unconscious understands that the artist portrays himself naked, but if the artist himself lives in the paradoxes of creating and often does not even consider himself an artist and has to interacting with the “real world”, the puritanity charged and placed also becomes a huge barrier for the artist who begins to undress inside his own art.

Being naked, with our exposed intimacy still causes us some strangeness, but at the same time a dip in our unconscious and an identification never felt before in other photographs: this is me, this is the skin I inhabit. Nothing less, nothing more.

We can almost smell the skin, the lightness of the air, the temperature of the sun. Observe that the shadows are also present and they are the only way to notice the great presence of the light.

(PT) Esse chamado que sentimos de sermos levados mas que tanto traz medo por nos colocar numa posição de vulnerabilidade. Expostos, nus de forma literal e figurada, sujeitos ao julgamento, sem saber como a nossa mensagem vai chegar aos olhos de quem está do outro lado.

Em outro momento, retrata também a nossa conexão como união sagrada, Shiva e Shakti, o masculino e o feminino em perfeita harmonia e comunhão. nosso caminho de encontrar nossos equilíbrios e vivendo cada dia mais presentes, numa relação que se torna mais real e profunda a cada dia. Revelam a sutileza do nosso despir, nos apoiando no outro, sentindo a base segura para seguir.

O inconsciente coletivo entende que o artista se retrata nu, mas se o proprio artista vive nos paradoxos do criar e muitas vezes nem se considera artista e tem que interagir com o “mundo real”, a puritanidade cobrada e colocada tambem se transforma numa grande barreira para o artista que começa a se despir dentro de sua propria arte.

Estarmos nus, com nossa intimidade exposta ainda nos causa certa estranheza, mas ao mesmo tempo um mergulho no nosso inconsciente e uma identificação jamais antes sentida em outras fotografias: este sou eu, esta é a pele que habito. Nada menos, nada mais.

Quase podemos sentir o cheiro da pele, a leveza do ar, a temperatura do sol. Observar que as sombras também estão presentes e elas são a única maneira de notarmos a grandiosa presença da luz.
